A B O U T

Ellen teaches creative, intelligently-sequenced hatha and flow yoga classes. She utilizes a wide array of props to maximize the benefits and experience of the pose for each individual body. Her understanding and study of the body is informed by both the Western approach of skeletal-muscular anatomy as well as the Eastern approach of the subtle, energetic body. Ellen's classes are precise, thoughtful, and demanding. She is based in Asheville, NC.

 

B I O 

Ellen has maintained a consistent yoga practice since her first class with Bryan Kest in 2003, and has been teaching since 2006. She received her 200-hour Teacher Training from Alison West of Yoga Union in NYC, focusing on anatomy, structural alignment and yoga for scoliosis.  Ellen later received her 300-hour certification from Yoga Studies Institute, focusing on subtle body anatomy, meditation, and philosophy. She served as Project Manager, Editor, and Video Model for Darren Rhodes' Yoga Resource Practice Manual, an encyclopedia of yoga instructions, tips and commentary for 350 poses. Ellen studied meditation and dharma in the Tibetan Buddhist lineage with Jessica and Stéphane Dreyfus of Triveni Yoga School. She has taught yoga classes, workshops, and trainings in New York City, China, Tucson, and Los Angeles.
